A Quick Look At Education

* Over 200 young teachers in District 3, Ho Chi Minh City have recently attended a festival in celebration of the upcoming Vietnamese Teachers’ Day (November 20).

The local youth union organized many activities for the teachers to have fun like cooking, flower arrangement, fashion shows, among others.

Many of them were honored for their contributions to education during the festival.

* Ho Chi Minh City will cooperate with Beijing in joint programs, vocational training, student exchange and others, under an agreement reached Monday between the local Department of Education and Training and Beijing’s Municipal Education Commission.

The agreement was part of an education fair organized by the visitors at the HCMC-based University of Science.

The expo was attended by Beijing’s universities and high schools well-known for their leadership position in economics, technology, and arts.

* A junior college has been inaugurated in Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City.

Mien Nam Economics Technical College sits on a 6,000 square meter lot and has 11 stories.

Among the school’s facilities are lecture halls, computer rooms, libraries, labs, and faculty offices.

The school is able to admit 5,000 students.

* Elementary students in Ho Chi Minh City will study history with audio-visual aids in the 2012-2013 academic year under a pilot project, according to the city People’s Committee.

The committee will ask the city television station and other agencies to make video clips, stage plays, and produce teaching materials for the subject.

* Education quality at higher education and vocational training levels must be assessed once in five years, the Ministry of Education and Training says in a draft document.

The proposed regulation will apply to institutes, universities, junior colleges, and vocational schools, whether they are private or public and domestic- or foreign-owned.

The ministry will announce a list of accredited assessors on its website and the mass media, according to the document.
