SNP Government Marks 100 Days Since First Minister's Re-Election

"The Scottish Government has published a list of "achievements" to mark the first 100 days since Alex Salmond was re-elected as First Minister."

The list covers all policy areas, including renewable energy investment, the opening of the M74 extension in Glasgow and progress to reduce hospital infections.

The government claimed credit for a string of announcements such as investment from companies in jobs and renewable energy technology.

The list also highlights decisions such as the establishment of a group to look at the role of the Supreme Court in Scotland and the postponement of legislation to tackle hate crime at football matches.

But Mr Salmond's political opponents criticised the SNP administration, saying there have been blunders in the months since the party's landslide victory at the Holyrood election.

The government sparked a political row when Mr Salmond said the London-based Supreme Court should have no role in Scottish criminal cases.

And legislation to tackle offensive behaviour at football matches was supposed to be in place by the new season but was held back after concerns it was being rushed.

The Conservatives accused Mr Salmond of turning every issue into a constitutional crisis while Labour said the row over the Supreme Court had been an "embarrassment".

A spokesman for the First Minister said: "Parliament may be in recess, but the Scottish Government continues its work - and when Holyrood reconvenes next month, we will publish a packed new programme for government, including measures such as minimum pricing.

"After four years of successful government, voters put their trust in us to make Scotland better - and Scotland is continuing to advance and make progress."

The list contains more than 100 achievements and announcements since the election on May 5. Mr Salmond was re-elected as First Minister in a vote at Holyrood on May 18.

Scottish Labour leader Iain Gray said: "The nature of Alex Salmond's government has been exposed as one intent on self-serving, petty party politics and narrow-minded nationalism rather than a proper government for Scotland."

He added: "His ridiculous row over the Supreme Court was an embarrassment and he has been tainted by the Souter cash for honours controversy and his unseemly courting of Rupert Murdoch.

"When he has presented legislation it proved to be a mess as the sectarian bill had to be hastily dropped."

Scottish Conservative leader Annabel Goldie said: "The last 100 days have been characterised by Alex Salmond's usual diet of grudge, gripe and grievance. He has tried to turn every issue into a constitutional crisis.

"His majority has gone to his head and he needs to come back to planet earth and concentrate on what he was elected to do: be a First Minister of a devolved administration."

Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie said: "The first 100 days of the SNP in Government have been marked by a series of blunders: first on the independence of the judiciary and Supreme Court, then on their sectarianism legislation."
